Hi,

I had been struggling to find a good instant message program for windows 98 and jaws 4.2. Skype and yahoo don't seem to work well and I can't use voice chat, but only text messages. Please help me if you can.

Possibly Bitwise would be your best bet. It will definitely work with Win 98 and I'm really not sure about JFW 4.2 but my guess is that it would do.

I'm pretty sure that I'm right when I say that msn won't install on Win98. Or at least not the newer versions of the program and you can't run anything earlier than msn6 so far as I'm aware so I think that's out. I did have bitwise running on a win98 machine earlier on this year though though I was using jaws 5. I think it would work fine with Jaws 4.2 just as well though. It's a really nice little program as it happens and has a far superior file transfer system than anything that microsoft have managed to incorporate into any of their messenger programs.

If you want to chat with people who use MSN, you can use pixamsn, which doesn't even have to be installed. It's just an exe-file you run, and it should work well with your JAWS Version. However, pixamsn does only support text chatting, no file transfers, no voice chats.

Maybe you can try a very basic programme called simple chat. You can find it at http://www.simonsgames.com/
You can click on downloads and download it. The person who you want to speak with has to have the programme as well and you will have to give your IP address. But you have to be careful with that.
